Enjoying the Holiday Weekend

Yesterday, we celebrated the 4th of July with friends.  They live downtown and invited us over to eat dinner and enjoy the fireworks the city was shooting off a few blocks away.  We had a great meal and had fun playing with the kids and watching the fireworks display.

Today, we drove up to the Grand Mesa with another couple to escape the heat and enjoy some time outside.  The Mesa is the largest flat-top mountain in the world and is covered with beautiful lakes.  We found a nice picnic spot with a fire pit and this view:

Right next to this lake:

We succeeded in escaping the heat and actually had to build a fire to keep warm and to attempt to keep the swarms of mosquitoes away.  By the time we were getting ready to leave, they were everywhere and we had to make a run for the car.  We had originally hoped to camp up there, but given the mosquitoes and the weather, we will all be happy to be cozy in our own beds.

I don't think I knew you guys had a blog? And I definitely didn't know that you guys had a 4th of July picnic in such a beautiful spot.

Keep putting up pictures like that and you'll find an overpacked Jetta pulling into your neighborhood. :)

Take care-
