Trip's First Camping Experience

The last week has been a flurry of activity and full of lots of fun. On Thursday afternoon, we headed up to Lofton Reservoir, just about 45 minutes from here, to camp with some friends. We got a late start so we had to get our tents set up and a fire built as soon as we arrived. Once all that was done, we enjoyed an evening by the fire and some good grilled food. Trip thought it was lots of fun to play outside with his friends and ate lots of Daddy's steak.

Trip got to bed late, so he went to sleep fairly easily. Kirk and I spent another half and hour or so chatting with the adults, and then turned in ourselves. In that short amount of time, Trip had moved himself in his sleep from the head of our tent to the foot and right in the doorway! He was so asleep, though that I was able to move him with no problem. We got settled and got a few minutes of sleep before the drama started. Trip kept waking up every 15-30 minutes saying, "No! No! No!" and then, "Mama! Mama!" He was also sleeping between us and kicking Kirk in the face, which was not enjoyable for Daddy. All of this was also not fun for Erik whose tent we pitched next to ours without thinking about Trip making noise during the night. I finally held Trip and then put him on the other side of me and snuggled him tight. He slept better after about 3am, but I didn't. He made it to 8am, which we were not expecting, but we were certainly thankful for it!

Friday brought more time to play with the kids and some time by the lake while the dads fished.

Trip (with a muddy face from sampling the local dirt- he is becoming a real connoisseur!) hanging with his buddy Kaiden. (Unfortunately Trip deleted the really cute picture of the two of them!)

Trip wanted Omi to hold him and take him by the water.

Although we got very little sleep, we are still glad that we took Trip camping. We hope to do it again this summer but will probably sleep in our van next time so that we don't bother everyone else as much.

Well besides the overnight drama, it sounds like it went pretty well! Camping memories can be so fun :)
